Eastern Han Dynasty, Jade Mandarin Ducks Pair, L.14cms漢玉駌鴦, 長14公分Carved with Hetain jade, these two jade mandarin ducks look similar. The head is facing upright with an opening in the beat. The wings are gracefully curled. The back is protruding. The feathers of the whole body are carefully arranged with the same style as the Emperor Kwan-Wu of Eastern Han Dynasty Mutton Fat White Jade Water Container. Is it possible that the Netherlands clog design has been inspired by the tail of this Western Han jade mandarin duck whose shape may be derived from Hongshan Culture jade knife?(See lower right image from Etsy.com ) Antiquity evidences are cleaving vein and calcification.
