Western Zhou Dynasty Jade Plaque, 西周鳳紋玉珮. H.6.5cm, W.8.2cm

 

 

Carved with yellow tone jade, this round angle rectangular plaque has seemed motif both sides. There are four phoenixes located at the corner on each side. The carving style matches the Western Zhou genre of big slant carving. There are eight holes of which the bigger rectangular ones sitting at the outer ring while the smaller round holes sitting at the inner ring. This jade plaque is supposed to be used as the decoration object for the dress of the Zhou people. Antiquity evidence includes additive crystals and diffusive markings.
