中國哲學思想將宇宙劃分為天地人三個領域, 稱為天地人三才.而在古玉文化中, 繩索紋又稱絞絲紋, 在古玉圖騰中, 若出現在神面與穀紋之間, 往往是被用來區分天界與地界. 這可以從春秋戰國玉璧的圖騰可以看出端倪, 而在三星堆玉雕中也有相同的涵義. 左圖為皇宮古玉齋藏玉玉璧, 外徑32.8cm, 孔徑5.3cm.

下方三星堆文化持璧祭司所站立的方形祭壇四壁的鏤刻繩索紋即有此涵義, 象徵祭司係站在地界向天界祈願. 若繩索紋單獨作為玉環或玉鐲的圖騰, 可能象徵團結與力量. In the Chinese philosophy, the universe may be divided into three powers: the way of heaven, the way of earth and the way of man. In the context of the jade motif, the rope may be used as the boundary to divide the heaven and the earth if it appears on the god’s face and the crops. If the rope appears individually as the motif of jade ring, it may signifies the power or unity.
